Ki-Aikido
Ki-Aikido / Shinshin Toitsu Aikido was founded in 1974 by Soshu Koichi Tohei Sensei, 10th Dan in Aikido. Based on the essential Ki principle which is “Mind moves Body,” we learn “how to maximize the ability that people naturally have”, and “how to respect and lead others.” These are the fundamentals that can be applied to everything in daily life, and so it is eagerly practiced by people whose fields are in sports, arts, management, education, and others.
Shinshin Toitsu Aikido is one of five Ki Society disciplines designed to help realize the oneness of mind and body. All Aikido techniques begin and end with the principle of non-dissension. We must be able to remain peaceful in our daily lives and in all situations. Shinshin Toitsu Aikido teaches non-dissension by releasing the idea of a conflict in our hearts as well as in the hearts of others.
If you physically struggle to throw a person, you are performing with a fighting mind. A fight is bound to result. But if you move a person’s mind, their body will gladly follow. By leading their mind, you avoid conflict and collision. You lead them to a place where they already have chosen to go.
This is your invitation to a new experience.
It is an experience of mind and body unification.
It is an experience that you can’t grasp through books or videos.
Imagine never having experienced the sensation of sweet. The most diligent study of sweetness will never compare to the experience of simply biting into a ripe summer peach.
Tohei Sensei created the Ki Society to spread the experience of mind and body oneness. You can gain this experience through any of Ki Society’s five disciplines. Members of the Ki Society can select the area of training that most interests them in cultivating the realization of mind and body oneness. It could be Aikido, Kiatsu, Ki-Meditation, Ki-Breathing or Bell Meditation.
